30-30 Topper barrel.

I just traded for an old Topper 30-30 barrel and it fit's perfect on 3 of my spare rifle frames. The rifling is much deeper than the newer Handi barrels so I got to thinking about it.
Are the Topper barrels good cast bullet shooters? I've got a bunch of 160gr. cast bullets sized to .309 and would like to shoot them in the Topper barrel.
I'm very impressed with the older barrel... it's got a nice slender profile, folding rear sight and it weighs about half of what a new one weighs. I'm on the hunt for a complete Topper rifle now. ;)
Thanks for any tips or tricks of the trade for these older barrels.

Been shooting my Topper 30/30 with Lee 170gr FP's and 15 grs of 2400 . Shoots where I point it, but have never benched it

My old Topper 30-30 is my favorite Handi!  You will learn to love it!  They are good shooters but I have not fired any cast bullets in mine yet.  I do have some cast bullets but I've been saving them for if I ever get around to cutting mine to 30-30AI I'll use them for case forming loads.  Enjoy that barrel!  44 Man

I have 4 topper 30-30s. 3 are shorties and one was my grandpas, so not hacksaw nor carbide will ever touch it.

I don't know anything about cast, but I can tell you that all of mine like 150gr Hornady SSTs. And, they all LOVE 125gr Nosler BTs. I just bought some 110gr Barnes X to try, but only out of boredom. The 125 BTs under a max load of H335 print .5 to 1 MOA 3 shot groups in all 3 shorties, and the full length clover leafs 3 shots all day long.

Topper 30-30s are the source of my NEF/H&R lust. You will love it!

2 others turned it down, one told me it probably wasn't a very good barrel !
