would like to know about accuracy of 4'' 22. any info would be helpful. i think this may be my next gun. is it accurate enough to small game hunt with. i like the fit and finish on the ruger better

In reality it only takes about an inch or so of barrel to stabilize a bullet. Most of the tales of inaccurate short barreled guns are due to the shooter. It's simply harder to shoot short barrel guns as well as moderate length or longer barrels because of the shorter sight radius.

I have the sp101 in 357 with 1 7/8" barrel. It shoots 'em pretty straight. The shortest barrel 22 I have is 5 1/2" single six. I put a scope on this gun just to see how good it would shoot. 25 yard groups measure 1 to 1 1/2" with Winchester Super X ammo. Maybe I just got a good one but the accuracy is there.

I would be curious enough to call Ruger and see what king of velocity they get out of their 4" barrels. 22 lr loads seem to drop off pretty quick in my 5 1/2" barrel.

One thing I did do to my single six was swab some Flitz (sp) metal polish down the barrel and kept stroking with a white patch till the patch remained white after I had shot it about 200 times and cleaned the barrel first. After using the Flitz I cleaned the barrel out real good with a brush and some solvent. This did shrink my groups some.

I had a 94 taurus and never liked it. The trigger was just awful. Lighten it up to where it was tollerable and the thing would missfire. I woulg go with the ruger. KN

Love my SP101. I've had one Taurus and I can't find anyone dumb enough to buy it. Actually, I'd feel kinda bad about selling it to anyone . . . but I'd get over it.

I have a 4" Taurus 94 that I like quite well. I've shot it enough that the trigger has worked in nicely though for slow deliberately aimed fire I shoot it SA, thumb cocking the hammer.

I would not argue that the Ruger is a nicer gun but also more costly.

One last word of causion: Check your local hunting reg's, here in NC the minimum barrel length for .22 handguns used for hunting small game is 6".

I purchased a used SP101 in .22 for my wife (Her fingernails were not compatible with a semi-auto).

The adjustable sights are rudimentary, but adequate. I would not consider fixed sights. Trigger was good stock, but the effort to cock in single action was heavy. I tried custom springs, but be careful and stay above the misfire level. It shoots better than me at 25 yds. As with all Rugers, double action shooting requires that the trigger be COMPLETELY released before trying the second shot. That last little "click" is important or the trigger will not function. My Taurus doesn't have this problem. Maybe the trigger spring forces you to the end of travel.
