using 160's for otters???
« on: May 30, 2012, 11:28:27 AM »
illinois is poised to have it's first otter season , and i'm pretty jacked up about it.

but my knowledge of otter trapping is pretty much nil........i know 280's and 330's are probably better traps,,,,,,,,even 220's......but my question is this.......would 160's be effective as well?

i'm attempting to use bottom edge sets more this year because we have an extended underwater mink/muskrat season this year....so i'd pretty much like my 160's to be a multiple species trap.......mink,rats and otter....i'd use the 220's but i'm certain that mink would slip right thru.

your thoughts?

Ive caught numerous otters in  one sixtys set for mink and rats underwater or bottom edge sets....  da otters were all dead.   I also have taken bobcats...full grown ... in one sixtys set in  boxes for coon.   The  one sixty does the job....
