Private property in the us ended with kelo vs new london. Thank the supreme court for that.

  I live not far from there.  Side note that didn't make the national news.  The company that was going to develope that neighborhood into high end condos got a bit jammed up when the real estate market crashed, so now the whole tract is empty.  So, the city used eminent domain to throw the home owners out with the plan of having higher tax generating properties built, and now has nothing.  That whole scheme was outrageous and I have no idea how it didn't turn violent.
