738 TCP
« on: May 13, 2012, 05:49:33 AM »
Just got back from the range. I took my 738 TCP, and I couldn't be happier with this little gun. I had 1 FTF in each clip the first time I used it, and since then not a single FTF or FTL. Along with my PF9, I have 2 CCW pistols that are absolutely reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot. I've put factory loads and reloads through both, and haven't had a lick of trouble with either. I know a lot of people talk down taurus pistols, but I have had nothing but good luck with mine. I'd recommend them based on my experience.

Was it a certain round?  Like maybe the spring tension was too high and needed settle with some loading?  Or you think the gun just needed to work some oil around in it and smooth out the action of the slide?

My experience with taurus has always been good.  If there have been problems, they have always been simple ones to fix.  I own four taurus revolvers, and have found all of them to be a good fit, design, and function.  A lot of what I see for complaints on this forum are no different from other companies - they all get one slipped based quality control now and again.

It was a while ago when I first took the gun out, but I think it was either the last or the next to last that messed up and it happened in both clips. I've been to the range several times since, and I've never had another problem. The gun has been a wonderful shooter, and I can't say anything bad about it so far aside from the sights are hard to see. Three dabs of white paint fixed that, though.  ;D

I've had a couple of Taurus handguns. Their version of the 45 Colt ACP, can't remember the model # but it shot great and was reliable. Traded it for something or another. The other I still own, or rather my wife owns it now. A model 94, 4 inch stainless 9 shot 22. Bought it for me to play with but she shot it and fell in love with it so now it's hers. If I come across a deal on another Taurus then I'll probably own another.

I have the same done to my ruger single actions... that all black gun with all black sights doesn't make anything easy to see.   My raging bull has a Burris fastfire on order... of course pics to follow with that one once it gets mounted.  ;)

I own a TCP 738 and like it a lot.  It has replaced my Beretta Tomcat as my pocket pistol of choice and I tke it out and shoot off a magazine or two every month just to cycle it and clean and oil it for the next month,  It has never jamed or malfuctioned in any way in the year since I bought it and I have put around 200 rounds of reloads and factory ammo through it including cast bullets and JHPs.  No issues at all and it rides around in either my pants pocket or coat pocket all the time.

After the first trip to the range, I still haven't had another FTF or FTE, and it's a nice small gun. I am really happy with the gun, and I can't say enough good about a reliable pocket pistol that was $200 new out the door. Reasonably accurate, light and easy to hide. It is still behind my PF9, but the 738 really is a nice carry choice.
