Bean seed eating buggers

I've finally figured out why I have to plant my green beans over and over....I figured something was eating them each year but never saw any digging etc.  But I killed a chipee in my rat trap and in its cheeks were 3 bean seeds.  Typically I don't even bait the trap, I just put it on their runway and they kill themselves.  But now I'm going to start puting some peanut butter on it to get as many as possible.  Rotten little blighters.

Around here, it's crows.  I dare not leave any part of a seed showing, and they are quick to spot a newly sprouted one as well.  They especially like corn seed & seedlings.

Just a little story about those cute little critters.  Visited a guy who had just moved into the neighborhood.  He and his wife had put a modular home in the woods.  Noticed little dishes all over the deck with dog food in them.  Was told they were there to feed the cute little chipees.  Word of warning went unheeded.  3 months later they were putting out poison instead due to a repair bill of over $30,000 caused by the cute little critters. 


I have an old tomcat that comes around regularly to drop off half of one here and there.  They don't seem to bother much after that.


If anyone can tell me how to rid my garden of the moles that eat my seed corn I would be more than appreciative.  Guess we all have our pests to contend with.

I guess I've been lucky so far this year.  I think it might have been a rabbit, but something ate all my dill and parsley sprouts, which isn't a big loss to me (ill have to buy some dill to make pickles this year).  Other than that, its just been an occasional leaf getting munched here and there by some deer.  That being said, the deer have done more damage blundering through the garden and stepping on stuff than they have by eating.  In the end, it doesn't matter much to me - especially since there's a good chance one or two of those deer and rabbits will likely end up in my freezer later on this year

you could try to bury 1/4 inch wire mesh to a depth of 8" all around the garden area, and leave 10" out of the ground.  This should also prevent rabbits from getting in.


Other than that, no I have no idea

For moles, cut juicy fruit gum in to 1/4" strips and use a Phillips screw driver to punch a hole in their tunnels to place it. They eat the gum but can't pass it.
