1/16th is definitely better for me.  I find it covers to much area over 75 yards.  8)

This question was posted in my ad in the classifieds and the info should be in this thread also.  :)

Was wondering what is the size of opening, is it correct size that it could be threaded for a smaller apature?
Thanks Don.

The I.D. is 3/16" or .1875"

The next size up is M6x1,00mm which uses a 5,00mm tap drill (.1969")

The next size smaller is 12x28 which uses a #15 tap drill (.1800")

However, the aperture (and windage screw) are 4140 steel heat treated to 35 Rc

You would have to anneal the aperture, which could cause problems with the hardness of the shank. It is heat treated so the set screw does not damage the flats on the sides of the thread.

A easier method would be to epoxy a reduced diameter sleeve in the hole.

And it looks like you would have to have a very long shank, and small OD aperture to clear the base. In spite of the logic of using a screw-in aperture, Ive been very surprised to find how well the 'ghost ring' has worked in the real world. In fact, I used one in an iron sight, 200yd. offhand match this summer and took 3rd. place. For hunting I find the thick anulus rear peep to block too much view, and I do shoot with both eyes open which aids 'target' acquisition for field or target.

Yah, I've upgraded my muzzle loader to a nice Tru-Glo Ghostring and it's very accurate and comes up on target very quickly.  I'd recommend it and has great light gathering fibers too.  You can see the dots even in moonlight.  8)

Front is a little bulky but hasn't seem to get hung up too bad so far.  I'm thinking about swapping it to my Colt Carbine for deer season then putting it back on the ML once December rolls around.  8)

So whats the final word this product. Has anyone bought one and found a front sight to fit
what type handi / Caliber please?
I'm thinking this would be sweet on one of the new 357 or 44 Talo's.

Thanks Tim, I'll need to go back and look at it. I didn't see comments from anyone that had installed and tested it yet. -g

I just put one on my 44mag Talo this week, I haven't got to shoot it yet but looks like the front sight needs to be taller, I'll know more after I get to shoot it  ;D

Has any one use one on a 12 or 20 ga USH? I am getting my 12 ga USH in a week or so. Thinking on putting one on mine. Any suggestions on a front sight?
Thanks

Bump!!

Man! Am I happy to have found this thread! Mike, I'll be getting one of your sights as soon as I get my new Handi Rifle. What front sight do I need for a 30-30?

mike , I spoke to you on the phone about getting a higher front sight . I tried modifing a 1917 enfield sight , looked cool but was too high . I tried to mill a slot in it and tap it 6x1 for a ak sight post , but the solder didnt hold , guess I suck at soldering. By the way your rear sight is awsome . any ways . I got pissed put on a luepold 1x4 scope , now I have a 16" 45/70 with a low powered scope , not a bad thing . I really want to use your sight . I was thinking about ordering a .500 s&w barrel . could you please tell me exactly what sight you have used on your progects. and do you do any gunsmithing . IE can I send you my rifle and some factory .500 ammo . and have you install it ?

A sight that snags will do so even if a little shorter or taller amd lots of rifles have had tall front sights. IMHO the best look is with a decent height sight on a ramp, but it wont really change the function or 'snagging'. Once you determine what height you need check the available ramps and sight combinations.

Looking pretty good - Just a thought - how about a front sight made something like an AR front sight - something that could have two or three different threaded posts that would screw into a base to make it multi height and adjustable to boot...... And on a different note, I think a couple of us would love to talk with you about another Handi project .....

I have at  least 20 H&R and I love peeps as I have not been able to use open sights effectively for 20 years. I don't see the front sight as a problem but I do the Ghost Ring. For years I have been using Merit adjustable (iris) apertures on almost  all my guns. Get one that would work with the Merit and I could use a handful, or more.
