Is there an all round powder for both cast and jacketed in 44 special and 44 mag.
Seems like I used to use IMR4227,

If I was to only have one powder for all it would be Unique. I use it for my cast bullet loads and it works for jacketed bullets too. I do use WW296/H110 for my heavy jacketed bullet loads. BTW I use 7.5 grains of Unique for my plinking rounds and 24.0 grains of W296 for my 240 grain jacketed loads in the 44 Magnum.

Good Luck and Good Shooting

Thanks for the reply.  I have H110/W296 and am having good luck with it.
Have not tried Unique.  What other powders do you use ?

Unique will do as will 2400, Universal or Power Pistol.

I'm not one to just one powder when a dozen will do. In .44 Special I use Unique, 2400 and Universal in about that order as far as number of rounds loaded with each. A fellow could use only the Skeeter Skelton load in .44 Special and never need anything else tho.

For .44 Magnum it really depends on what ya looking for. If max velocity H110/W296 will give it to ya. But 2400 is also an excellent choice for either medium to light loads all the way to max loads. It is a very versatile powder. It is what I use if I want less than max loads.

Thanks Graybeard.
Since I am loading for the Taurus RB a good solid accurate load is what I want to hunt with.
Plus, a 44 special load that is accurate for practice in the back yard.  Sounds like 2400 is what I am looking for.  I keep the H110 for the 357 pistol and rifle.
All goes well, I should be ordering cast 240 grain this weekend.  Just depends on if the fish are biting.

Quite some time back when I got back into reloadin for handguns ol' Will'um told me all I needed was Unique and 2400.  I have never found reason to question that advice!   ;)   In a 44 Mag. rifle or pistol 2400 has been a great powder for me!   ;D
