30 carbine
« on: June 13, 2012, 05:12:26 AM »
It's been a while so I do not remember. Does a 30 carbine case require lubrication before running through a carbide sizing die?

 Thanks

No lube required with carbide dies

I did the same thing last week for my 30 carbine pistol. Midway had the Rainier 30 carbine plated bullets on sale for dirt cheap and I bought a thousand to try. Haven't put any in the air yet but they're loaded, waiting.......

Just stamped out 200 rounds on the 550. I started with 2000 Remington 110 grains soft points, some once fired Remington brass, CCI primers and just enough 2400.
I have an IMI Carbine rifle with 15 and 30 round mags. My young daughter and her friends enjoy shooting this little rifle at various reactive targets, as do I.

I have found out that resizing 30 cal for my ruger pistol that it works a lot better if I use lube even tho I use Lee carbide dies. This seems to keep the brass from streaching to much. You can feel the difference when sizing. I also read this in I belive it was Handloader some time ago. All I know is it works.

I guess it depends on what brand of die you have.  I use a Hornady carbide die and if I don't lube about every 5th case, it starts to get real tight.  I've had some stuck cases and those are a real pain to get out.  I usually lube about 1/4 of the number of rounds I plan to load and 1 lubbed/4 non-lubbed makes for smooth loading with no problems.

I use Hornady One Shot with all my carbide dies. Makes things work easier.
