ejector question need help?

when opened allows the bullet to go in without ejector contact as it is to low. that said i can close the firearm and after fireing the ejector does eject the shell. that said i know the ejector should hold the shell on insetion into the barrel. Funny thing is when its conected to the receiver is when the ejector drops down but if the barrel is loose by itself the ejector is rite where it needs to be. I saw the FAQ that Dinny performed with a shim on the back side but I quess i am looking for a more permanent fix. I havent taken the ejector apart to see if anything is broken I quess just wanted to see if anyone else has had the issue and if parts were broken what has been the permenent fix.

Assuming this is a rimless cartridge there is nothing wrong with your ejector.  I have a couple that will do the same thing.  THe ejector is designed to drop out of the way when the gun opens, if it didn't it would intefere with the body of the brass.  There is a small spring & button in the underlug the pushes the ejector into the notch on the rimless brass when the action is closed.

thanks bikerbeans. second ejector rimless i have owned and the first one was in and out of my hands to H&R for repairs before I even noticed it and is due back to me on monday. Cant wait to dial them both in thanks.

lots in the FAQ's on ejectors maybe take a second look i missed alot my first time through,information overload

I figured out that the roll pin that engages the ejector motion when the action is opened is the culprit for most of the ejector's bad reputation. By custom fitting a new roll pin that just barely clears the slots in the receiver, I have fixed every problem I have had with the Handi rifle.
 It is a simple fix just get a longer roll pin and grind it to fit and install.

My 7x57 does the same thing.  When I brought it up here I'm sure I was told that it was a normal manner of functioning for the ejector.  And, since the ejector works just fine every time, I didn't worry about it!
