The photo is jwtate's (see his earlier post on this thread).  When I tried to "quote" his post, the reply didn't include the photo, so I copied and pasted the address of it again.  I am curious about the shell holder also.

It was a 26" .308 Win. heavy barrel that I had cut to 20".  I also had it ceracoated in graphite black.  My gunsmith and I argued for two weeks over the length.  He wanted to cut it to 22" and I wanted to cut it to 18", so we agreed to meet in the middle and make it 20".

The shell holder is from TC.  It was on their website.  I have had it for several years now, so I am not sure if they still have it or not.  I ordered the medium holder and they sent me the small one.  It is for .223 sized cases.  The .308 cases stick out more than the are supposed to and are also a little hard to get in and out.  I should have sent it back and got the correct one but I didn't have the  patience to to wait, so I just made it work.

Nice.  Heck, I use to shoot a Encore handgun with a 15" .308 barrel.  There is nothing wrong with a 18" or even a 16" with a little sacrifice of the performance.   I stopped because it hurt too much!  I had a pain that would shoot up my arm when shooting more than a half a dozen shots.

I bought a 21" T/C factory 17 Rem tapered carbine barrel last year but haven't had the time to properly work up a load for it yet.

Here is one i got in a trade yesterday...

16.5" SS 308 barrel on blued frame with Leupold M8 6x
Pistol forend.

Looking for some wood to replace it. Not a synthetic fan. I swear if i had an AR id want some wood on it. :)

Also would like a 358 win barrel for it. Here in MS we can primitive weapon hunt with this type rifle in 35 cal or larger.

I fired 20 rounds thru it today. It shoots fair with the cheap ammo i used so i think with the right load it may drive tacks.

••Update to this post.••

Found a local guy selling a Boyds lam thumbhole stock and bought it today.

Ordered my 358 win barrel off 24hourcampfire and hopin it will be in soon.

Also ordered 150 pcs of brass, dies and bullets. Cant wait to get my lil thumper put together!! :)

Nice.  .......and the Contender, I've always been intrigued by those "push-pull" type pistol grips.  I have never seen any come up on the used market though, so I may need to make one some day.

What stock set is that on the 280? It looks like a B and C but on an encore.

Two of my Contenders that are the most accurate. The first one is a Bullberry and the second one is an MGM.

Gremcat, The stock on the 280 is a standard black synthetic TC stock and forearm.I painted them both with Krylon Khaki and black webbing paint. Then put 2 coats of satin clear coat on it.

Here is a 44 mag encore with a "take down" knob I made.
This little carbine can be carried in a backpack an assembled in less than 5 seconds, and loaded in another 2 or 3 seconds. The takedown knob stays on the stock via the locking nut, and so it won't be *lost* in the bottom of the backpack when you most need it.
The plastic stock has been filed down to be perpendicular to the stock bolt. The takedown knob has been made to mate with both the filed part of the stock and the surface up inside the grip the the original bolt mated with. It is rock solid!

.......and before you ask........yes.....here in Canada this carbine is legal  8) .

Interesting idea.  Thanks for sharing.

It's a shame we can't easily do this in the US.  There are soooooo many 15" barrels available.  But finding them in ~16" is so difficult.  I have wondered why TC didn't just make barrels in 16" as the standard instead of 15".  Are there states in the US where pistols can't have a 16" barrel?  There should be some exclusion of these silly regulations for single shot arms.

The other alternative in the US is to SBR an Encore frame.  Then barrels become plentiful.

The SBR has a 10" SSK .300 Whisper and an SWR Trident-9.  I bought the unfinished, inletted stock from a shop somewhere in Kansas, and finished it off.  I think it turned out really nice.

The other has a T/C factory 23" .223 with an American Manufacturing Triple-X Warrior.

I don't recall what scopes I had on them when the picture was taken.  They've both been switched out since then.

Here's the .300 in pistol configuration:

I have a 14" Contender barrel in 300 Whisper that is threaded.  One of these days I'll spring for a supressor for it.
