.45-70 Recoil Pad Suggestion
« on: July 01, 2012, 02:16:12 AM »
I have a Handi in .45-70 that came with a synthetic stock/forearm set.  Not being much on plastic stocks (no offense to those that like them) I replaced them with a wood set off of a shotgun.  My issue is that the plastic butt-plate from the wooden stock doesn't seem to do much in the way of taming the recoil of this little gem.  I looked at Boyd's laminated stocks but at 6'4" I think the thumbhole will feel cramped.  So here is my question:  Does anyone have any suggestions as to a recoil pad for the basic non-monte carlo stock with the scant grip?  I am leaning towards the Pachmayr D752 Decelerator.

Since you are that tall, you might consider slip on Limbsaver.  Good pad, and longer LOP.

Hey guys thanks for the responses.  I am going to put the plastic stock back on it until I can afford the laminated stock set from Brownells.  They have the type I am looking for without being a thumbhole.  Just never got used to those.  My wife told me no more gun purchases this year.  I am glad she has a blind eye towards accessories.

Boyd's only lists t-hole stocks for modern H&Rs, the two straight stocks are for vintage H&Rs(model 1900-08 etc) with a tang that fits into the stock. If you want a nice wood/lam stock, you'll have to go with an H&R stock or GSI.
