RAND'S NEWSLETTER UPDATE

JUNE 22, 2012
Â
Please see below for an update on my past week in the Senate here in our nation's
capital.
Senate Votes on Job-Killing EPA Regulations
The Senate this week voted on a resolution of disapproval to halt the Environmental
Protection Agency's Utility MACT rule, which would shut down coal-fired power plants
across the country. The resolution failed passage 46-53.
The EPA's Utility MACT is yet another battle the Obama Administration is intent on
fighting in their war on coal. Through onerous regulations, excessive compliance
costs, permitting delays, and unreasonable environmental requirements, they have
taken aim at an industry that employs and powers this country.
Prior to the vote, I spoke on the Senate floor urging my colleagues to vote in
disapproval of this job-killing EPA rule. To read my entire statement click HERE. To
watch video of the speech click HERE or below.
Also this week, more than 500 coal jobs in several Kentucky counties were lost. I
spoke with Hazard's WYMT about the causes for the job loss and my concern for those
out of work. Click HERE to watch the interview and read more about the story.Â

Farm Bill Amendment
The Senate also voted this week on a series of amendments to the 2012 Farm Bill,
including an amendment I introduced that would limit payments and benefits listed in
the bill to those people with an adjusted gross income of $250,000 or less. In other
words, my amendment would have ended farm subsidies to the 9 percent of farmers who
earn more than $250,000 per year but receive nearly a third of all benefits.

Opposing Unconstitutional Wars
Finally this week, I wrote an opinion piece that appeared in National Review Online
on undeclared wars. Click HERE to read my op-ed.
Media Wrap-Up
I appeared on CNN's OutFront with Erin Burnett. I also spoke with several Kentucky
television and radio stations, as well as those across the country.
