Check to see if the sear spring is broken.

It's a torsion spring. If you remove the crosspin that holds the sear in it will be free along with the sear. I had one in the shop last week showing what I think is the same problem you are describing. The spring looked OK, but once I removed the pin it was easy to see it was broken. Worn in half actually. I put in a new one and everything worked just fine.

You might also want check to be sure it's not just debry or burrs holding it up, but Nobade is on the right track suggesting worn or breakage otherwise.

BTW, it's a Contender, easy open vintage... there was no such thing as a G1 Contender.

Actually, Thompson Center calls them Contender's and G2 Contender's.   ;D

Great! Glad you got it fixed. I still think we were talking about different parts, but that's OK if it works now!

Glad you got it, glad to help.   Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees... now days sometimes TC themselves can't either.   ::)
