lawnmower moter

need help with a 8hp. Briggs cant get it to spark it will but very weak. has no points, i cleaned the flywheel and coil, new plug. I'm lost anyone help

Something I would occasionally find is that where the plug wire exited the motor there was a break in the insulation that would allow it to nearly ground out, not all the way, but enough. I would wrap it with plenty of black tape and keep on going. These were 5hp pump motors (horizontal shaft). Best I got for you.

My 5 year old B&S lawnmower motor was running poorly and surging.  I installed an Iridium Champion Plug (Easy Start) and it immediatly ran better than ever.  I use these plugs in all my small 2 and 4-stroke engines now.

if i remember rite, there is a certain tolerance that the flywheel shud be away from the coil measured with a feeler gauge. try that.

also try looking down in the fuel tank with a strong light to see if there is water in there. and crank it over and spray a bit of starting fluid in and see if it hits.

  I have an 8hp B&S motor on a compressor.  They only way i fixed the weak spark was to buy the whole ignition under the flywheel.  It now starts easily, like it did long ago EVERY TIME, with a strong spark!
 
  Very easy to install, and did the trick!

If doing what the other fellows advised didn't work;
Electronic ignition conversions are pretty simple. I did one on a troybilt tiller that nothing would work on. It was just a little chip you wired into the ignition. It is a 1970's model with original motor. Did the conversion in the late 80's and it is still going. Here's one similar. http://www.killerbeezer.com/Ignition-ELECTRONIC_IGNITION_MODULE_NOVA_II.html
It just amplifies the spark. Guessing it's like a conversion for a car. Just that the magneto is the trigger instead.

yup sounds like something either in the pick up coil, or insulation breaking down on the plug wire
