Star Model B
« on: July 06, 2012, 09:21:06 AM »
Anybody have any experience with these?  I've been in C&R withdrawl for a while, so I have one coming - a Russian capture from AIM.  ::)
Been doing a lot of research on feeding problem issues/fixes (problem that began in WWII when they had to switch from 9x23 to 9x19).  I think I have enough info to ensure a reliable shooter.  Wish I could find cheaper source for an extra mag, but $35-40 seems the best I can do.

I have worked on and shot various older Star pistols but not these R/Cs. The photo on the dealers site sure looked nice. I have always come away with the impression that they are well built reliable and accurate weapons. The only troubles I have ever experienced had to do with guns that were worn beyond their useful life. They are very rugged, and relatively simple in their workings. I think they have a superior safety design to many of their peers, as it cams the hammer back off the sear and then physicaly locks the hammer in place.
Good shooting

The star B model is in 9mm luger 9mm x 19mm and the star A is in 9mm largo 9mm x 23mm  don't get the 9mm largo mixed up with the 38 super.  I have some star pistols and find them to be ok so far.

Star arrived today.  Looks just as pictured on AIM site.  Numbers match frame/slide/barrel.  Checkered wood grips.  Barrel looks really good.  I am very pleased.  Only issue is the buggered grip screws - but they are fixable. Hope it shoots as good as it looks!  ;D

I've had several Bs and BMs, all have worked very well. Right now I have a Super B that I like very much. The Super has a few improvements over the B but not much. I found that magazines from another model, I think it was BM fit except for the shape of the floorplate which was easy to reshape, I have 5 magazines now for my Super B.

I was concerned with all the issues I had read about surrounding the Bulgarian contract Star model B's, but a quick test-fire (24 rds. of WWB 115gr) resulted in 100% functioning with the supplied 8-rd magazine.  I'll head back to the range when the Triple K mags arrive.
