The green beans are going nuts....
« on: July 15, 2012, 02:01:35 PM »
I ck'd the green beans this weekend and had a bit of work to do.  I have two rows of beans with a total overall length of about 25ft.  1st picking amounted to 4 - 2gal bags of beans.

Picked them tonight, gave 2 gal away, bagged the rest and put in the fridge. Hopefully tomorrow after work will be snipping, snapping, blanching and vacume sealing.

I had 4 plants come up in about a 20 ft row so I just tilled them up. Try making some leather britches, dried green beans. They can be snapped and dried or dried whole. String em and hang them or use a dehydrator. WE put em in a crock pot and cook all nite usually with a roast or something like that. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

I typically plant about 3 times to fill in a row o/a ground squirrels stealing the bean seeds.  Never heard of drying green beans but it sounds like an interesting idea and would be a lot easier to store than freezing them all...as I don't really care for canned.

My half runners are starting to get little beans on them but are a disappointment so far as there arent enough for one meal yet. Pole bean plants look great but no signs of blooming yet.
