After having so much trouble with my CZ 452 silhouette rifle I am looking for a new rifle for rimfire hunter class. What would you more experienced shooters suggest? >John

That is a loaded question (like Chevy vs Ford)!

OK, considering the source here (only been shooting silhouette ~3 year), here goes.  After checking out the "really good" shooters at local matches, most were using Anschutz rifles (1710 model, and a few 1712's).  Serval had used CZ's a few years prior to there Anschutz experience.  Figured I would cut-to-the-case and skip the CZ route and go directly with an Anschutz (all ready have a standard and 2 air rifles from them and have been very pleased).  Ordered a 1712 for myself, and after the back order delay (about 6 months), finally received it.  The rifle is very accurate, but the 2 stage trigger was a huge disappointment, and not upto what would be expected.   After having the trigger worked on, its now crisp with the right pull force.

This may not be the best solution, but it sure was an expensive one! :-D

i might suggest that if you are experiencing "so much trouble" shooting your cz you should check to the barrel to see if it is straight.  if it is, it may not be the rifle.

I have been having trouble with a continuously rising point of impact with my CZ silhouette. The shoots small groups but somewhere every 150 shots or so the point of impact will change (approximately 1 to 2 inches in an upwards direction. This continuous change has gone 12 plus inches. Gone through the rifle along with three premium scopes and various scope mounting systems to try to find the problem. This has been discussed seriously on rimfire central and here on gunsmithing forum.>John

12 inches?!?!?!
that sounds very strange, maybe a lead up barrel??? maybe you have to clean it often??
I have seen many rofles used for hunter, you have to decide what works better for you and which one you  like the best, most of them are anschutz 1710 and 1712 models also quite a few are custom built on the anschutz 54 hunter action, few are using sako finfire either with factory or custom barrel, I am using winchester 52B and as far I know I am one of very few that can shoot it well, so basically anschutz or sako are leading numbers

Just wanted to let every one know, after writing about looking for a new rimfire silhouette rifle after having unresolved problems with my CZ452 Silhouette.

I received a personal phone call from Alice Poluchova, President of CZ-USA. Said she received my letter and was sorry for the mix up in customer service. I told her I just wanted a little help in getting my rifle straightened out. I was astounded by her reply: She said have the rifle be ready to be shipped in three days. They would have the rifle picked up by UPS and as soon as they received it they would ship me a new rifle..
I was astounded. Talk about service! Remington and a few other firearms manufacturers need to take lessons. Made a lifelong CZ fan out of me. They went way beyond what I expected of them. And all I can do is give them a big thumbs up.>John

Good to know that CZ is that service oriented. I bought a scout for my kid a while back and was blown away by the quality you received for the money spent. As a proven, mature design with lots of available info and kits available for tuning it, I've reccomended them to many people who are looking for a competitive, but not wallet busting sporter.

I bought a CZ 452 silhouette. All I did was bed the action and the dumb thing shoots almost as good as my 54MS.  Take your time don't give up on it. I use federal gold metal match about 4.00 per box of 50. SWEET.
There are some smiths out there that can smooth out the travel of the trigger.
good luck

I have a buddy in NH who wants to get into MS so I told him to find a NS522 or CZ452 for $300 or less as the quick and dirty solution.  Seems the supply of NS522s in New England has dried up so he is looking hard at the CZ.

Seemed this thread is close the mark and thus far has avoided the "Chevy vs Ford" excitement

He asked me which one? Man, that's not as easy to figure out.  The one thing I cannot comment on is the "European" drooped stock vs the "American" straight back stock.  My guess is for those who like a nice cheek weld on the stock the European would be more difficult.  But figure you guys know best.

I would lean to an American, Style or Silhouette, whichever fits his fancy and/or wallet and avoid the very affordable Trainer or the beautiful Extra Lux because of the drooped stock.  I figure my NS522 is straight back and my 1710 is straight back so why change.  But I have never tried the European for MS.

Wisdom welcome.

I like the Sako Finnfire.  I've got an extra safe queen in superb condition that we could talk about a possible deal.  Just send me an email...
