Swabs for bore polishing new barrels
« on: June 10, 2012, 08:08:55 AM »
As a new-ish Handi owner, I've heeded the FAQs about polishing the bore on new barrels even before my first range trip.
So, when I saw some foam bore cleaning swabs at a recent manufacturing event I attended, I grabbed a bunch. ;)  (okay, maybe it was a big bunch)

The manufacturer makes clean-room swabs for cleaning electronics/optics/medical products and has decided to market these to we firearms enthusiasts.
Following the instruction in the GBO Handi FAQs, I used these to j-b polish the bore on new 223 ultra and also both my new "thirties" that Brian56 just fitted. (haven't gotten them to the range yet).
These swabs work great; the polish stays stuck in the cover and the internal plastic "jag" supports the foam.  I even used a 9mm (0.357) size to polish the chambers.  The whole polishing job on the two new barrels took 30-40min, including cleaning and I didn't have to hassle with patches coming off a jag.
According to the manufacturer, they should start showing up at the usual places fairly soon with more sizes to follow. (Yes, I did ask about a 50cal size - its in the works)
