El Segundo!City of Cadillac City Salaries
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:14:33 AM »
If your considering a career in Law enforcement or Fire fighting, you  may want to try El Segundo for employment. A firefighter there averages 210,000 in salary and benefits. A Police officer a little less. That's just average in a town of around 16,000 with  very little crime and only a handful of structure fires last year.

I live a couple miles South of El Segundo and worked there for years. My Dad worked in the city for 40 years and my Wife graduated from El Segundo High.

For as long as I can remember, local cops and firemen had looked at getting a job there as winning the lottery. The city used to be awash in cash, partly because it was a major aerospace manufacturing hub (nearly all union labor that made sure city officials were union-friendly). Much of that money has dried up now. The Chevron refinery also contributes heavily to the city's tax coffers.

Many of the big wheels in the city are Mormons. Cops are prohibited from using tobacco either on or off duty. It's well known locally that you simply do not speed or break any other traffic rules in El Segundo unless you want a ticket. Cops don't have much else to do.

Last I heard, El Segundo Fire Dept. was broke and about to let LA County Fire Dept. take over...

In light of recent eventsI don't know if that is good advice..  Seeing Stockton going belly-up and with California itself likely to follow..the bloom might be off the rose.. ;)   ;D
