Savage Ultra-lite Hunter

Not much of a Savage guy...no reason really....just haven't found one I really liked until yesterday.  A buddy of mine bought a M111 Ultralight hunter in 6.5x284 NORMA. Fit and finish was outstanding and I really liked and was impressed with the action and stock lightening!  Felt great and balanced well for me. I'm in the market for a less than 30 and more than 243 kinda gun for medium sized game....also looking for something different in caliber.  Was thinking about a 260 as it's easy to load for and not too exotic.  Could do the 6.5 Creedmore or the 6.5x284 but I think the NORMA needs a bit more barrel length to be efficient.  I have a LW bolt in 223, 243, 7x57 and 3006.....so I think a 260 might just work out.
 
Does anyone here own this rifle and can comment???

I have just receintly seen one of these at Jay's.  I didn't know they existed until now.  I love it!  I am seriously in love with one of these, prefering a 7-08 (but maybe I could be tempted by the .264 Creedmore).  I just wish I had seen one before I invested in the model 70 Win I now own, or I would own a lightwt hunter right now!  You are right, they are light and handle very well.  I've always been a fan of guns that were short, quick, and light and this Savage is all three.  It's on my Christmas list for next year.  44 Man

I got one about 3 weeks ago. Topped it off the a Leupold vx2 ultralight scope.nice rig but having a time developing a load. I'm beginning to think the problem is me. With the thin barrel I keep the shots to three. With the same load I'll do a three shot group that is a cloverleaf! I'll take the gun in the house and let it cool for about an hour and the thing will not group for nothing. I just am not sure what is going on.


It's a 308. My dealer could not find one anywhere in 260 which I wanted. The 308 is a handful!!!

I have been working more on loads and I am starting to see results.  My thoughts on this rifle has been correct (for me anyway).  This is about as light of rifle I have ever shot with this recoil.  I had a CZ 527 so I have shot light rifles so, yes, these little Savage rifles are light.  The light weight is making me work hard at the range.  I must make an effort in every shot to produce a good group.  The Savage is shooting like every Savage I have ever owned to date in being very accurate.  If I do my part I can make one big hole @ 100 yards.  I just wonder what a heavy loaded 30-06 in this rifle would be like!!!
