Think I'll use my 6.5x55 this year for everything. Use 129gr Hornady for everything. Let's see, deer, antelope, elk and bear equals four rounds. Yep that should do it! ;D

Hey there Hunter,
Loading??????  Get with the program folks,  ::) wake up and get out of bed!  my first season opens next Wed. EARLY.

And yes,  been to the friends range twice this week and me an the 45/70 are ready!!!!!!

The friend with the range also has the BIG cooler and is the one that helped me out with the 1st morn'in cow elk last year.

Sure hope he needs to pitch in again!!!!!!!!!

I did verify  the 300win, should I get where range is an issue, and finished testing the 55gr Nosler balistic tips from my old Flat Bolt RUGER 77, .243.

Then, on the way home, helped the friend out with their ground critter infestation.  5 shots, 5 critters.

Had to stop before I blew my average!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

Keep em coming!

I have an ample supply of factory and reloads but would load some more if it cools down.   Its too much trouble to put the window a/c in the garage where my reloading bench is located.   I need to pop some caps too but I don't want to rust up my guns with sweat in this hot and humid weather.

Biggest game around here is wild hogs. I've got some pics of some that we estimate between 300-350 lbs. I use the same rifle,a 20 inch 45 LC Encore, for deer and hogs. My rifle likes the 250 gr Hornady XTP's over a stout load of Lilgun but even though they will body slam a deer the bullet comes apart. For hogs I went with the Hornady 240 gr XTP because of it's thicker jacket. I could have tried the 300 gr XTP's but my rifle shoots the 240's and 250's the same without changing the scope. I envy some of you that can start hunting this early. Our bow season for deer doesn't start till October and gun season for them starts the weekend before Thanksgiving. Hogs are year round but I just can't talk myself into hunting in this 95-102 degree weather.

Yep, I hear ya.

My hunting is EARLY morning and only on days when the friend is able to help this Ol'Coot if I get something down.

Last years elk was down at 7:10am, and with the two of us working it was 9:30 - 10 before we got it in the cooler.

Thanksfully, Doug lives VERY close to where I was hunting and I was out to the rig and to his house by about 7:30.  That included the walk back to the pickup, unloading the 4wheeler and the SHORT run to his house.

Doug's huge cooler is still a big PLUS!

:) Hey Darrel, that is early for elk...!!!!...We have cow permits that open Aug. 15th, BUT there are no coolers available until Sept. 1st...so on that date we will grouse hunt until late morning, then elk hunt in the evening...I prefer mornings, but this hunt evening is best...Would like to try my Marlin .45-70 on an elk, but doubt that ever happens..much of my hunting these days is in open country where I can see a good distance...Plan to take my .375 H & H a couple days..but will also have a flat shooting rifle in the pickup also...
Seasons do open early here, but the also close early..most of our big game is over when the rest of you are just getting started...but that is good for me since I am retired, I move on to other places for some hunting... ;)

Pretty plain vanilla here.  165 Sierra GameKings in .308 for the local white tailed deer...

I also have some 168 grain Barnes TTSXs loaded and expect to carry those if I'm in an area where I could see both deer and bear.  Both loads are matched out to about 230 yards so there is no need to mess with the clicky things on the scope.

Getting ready to start on .30-06, .270, and .308.  Just cup and core bullets for me.

Just a few rounds of 270 and 6mm. Always a delema for me, I have a tendancy to load too many when I get bored, and then I have ammo sitting around getting old. I know I should shoot the stuff, but I don't think of my hunting guns as fun to shoot, I have lots of guns that are just begging me to shoot that are a lot more fun
