SOMEBODY HELP
« on: January 31, 2004, 08:52:06 AM »
:D
GREETINGS SHOTGUNNERS,
I'm a long time reader and occasional poster on this site but this is my first post to this forum, primarily because I don't reload shotgun shells.
This is probably the wrong forum technically for this request but I figured it would get the most exposure here.
I need one, Yes just one shell of any guage with No. 8 STEEL shot.
Or if anyone who reloads has some No. 8 steel on hand I need maybe a half dozen pieces.
I have an older Thompson Center fold down tang peep sight on one of my muzzle loaders.  It has  (had) a tiny steel ball bearing with a spring behind it that pushes it into an indention on another part of the sight and this locks it in the verticle position.  I took it apart to clean and wouldn't you know when I separated the two parts, poing and the tiny bearing was gone.  I checked the hole with my calipers and it's .09 in. which per Winchester's load manual is exactly the same size as no. 8 shot.
I'll gladly send postage and payment in advance if anyone can help.
It has to be steel, the lead just too soft.

Don,

Have you tried sending an e-mail to T/C tech support?  They may be able to send you the correct part.

:?
Yep,  I tried that and evidently this sight has been out of production for a number of years and most spare parts are no longer available.

Don, I also have one of those sights on one of my .50 Hawkens and that is bad to hear that the parts are no longer available.  If all else fails and you have the measurement wrong for the size of the ball bearing you need, I will pull mine apart and measure it for you.  Hope I won't loose the it also.

Good news Thomas,  through a vendor that we order from at my work place today I was able to order a pkg. of 100  -  3/32" stainless steel balls for $4.46 plus shipping.
I'll be happy to send you a few "just in case" the mood ever strikes you to dissassemble your sight and should the same thing happen as did to me.  Leave me a PM with your address if you're interested.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Thank you Don, sent you an e-mail with my mailing address.  I don't like to use the private messaging system here, I get all confused with the screens and often can't determine if the message was sent or what.

Thanks again,
