Front sight questions.

Before I order, I want to make sure I have my facts straight.  I know the front sight height I need, my question concerns which Williams Shotgun Shorty ramps are supposed to work.  There are 3, .875 dia, .815 dia (both 12 gauge) and a .690 dia (20 gauge).  My muzzle diameter ranges from .725 to .745 along the current factory sight ramp.

Should I get the 20 gauge ramp or the .815" 12 gauge ramp?

I'd use the .690", it will center on the barrel better, those for the larger barrel will only be touching the barrel in the middle, the .690" will be touching on both sides, you could always put a little epoxy putty under it to bed it too, just wax the barrel first so it won't stick and become permanently mounted!

Thanks, that is what I was looking for.  Without having it in hand, its hard to know how flexible it is.

Incidentally, the barrel in question is a Talo 44 mag.

Wonder if this would get the radius of a .690 a little closer to what you want?


Wrap fit emery cloth around the barrel, ugly side out.
(Or if you have some deep well sockets, dowel, or round thingy that just happen to be the correct radius)
Rub the sight up and down the emery cloth to form fit it a little closer to the barrel diameter.
Probably have to cold blue it or paint it some how.


I've done it with a deep well socket wrapped in sand papaer on a wood forearm I made.
Haven't tried it on metal.

Keep in mind what Quick said, there is no downside to having the middle a bit high so the edges of the sight touch first, even if you radius it as mentioned. It keeps the sight sitting straight and square.
