Mine does pretty good with 250 xtp and 300 grn.
an unloaded wepon is equal to the same mass and volume as a rock.

the 250 xtp is a 45 colt bullet what velocities  are you getting and have you used it on game? i would think the jacket would be to thin for 454 velocities. i was thinking on the 300xtp-mag or one of the cast performance bullets , the 325 or 335.  i will be using this rifle for black bear this fall.

Mine was very accurate with the Hornady 300 gr XTP mags over about 31 grains of Lilgun. Only reason I let it go was that I just couldn't get used to a scout style scope on it and can't see iron sights well enough to hunt with.

2400 gives me 1380 fps with 250 xtp [45LC]
With 454 and the 250 xtp I'm getting aroud 1700 fps hornady recomend's 800-1600 fps
With factory 300gr. xtp/mag getting 1800 fps and the same with reloads

I would recommend using the Hornady 240-mag. bullet over the 250 colt bullet.  The 240 mag and 300 mag Hornady bullets are made for the speed obtained by the 454.  Unless down-loading the 454 I don't think you will be happy with the performance of other 45 cal bullets from Hornady.  DP

DP is wright about the reg. xtp's they are not designed for the velocity's obtained with the 454 unless down loaded, if hunting with the 454 at regular velocity I would go with the mag. bullet. Hunting with the 300 [reg.] xtp I down load them to around 1650 fps.,have not shot anything with the 454 yet so don't really know how they will do.

i have some factory ammo in both the 240 and 300 xtp mag bullets i will see which one gives best groups and then buy them for reloading.
