Anyone loading for BAR in .270
« on: July 08, 2012, 11:46:14 PM »
A friend wants me to load some for him. I have not loaded for this rifle before. So what powders, bullet weight and so forth are you using? Any pet loads?
 Thanks for any help.

I suggest using factory duplication loads to balance the pressures.  The semi auto is set up for them.  Nothing good can come from deviating  from normal specs.  Pick a quality bullet then drive on.  Good luck.

A different friend sold his bar .270 because he said he could never load to where it would cycle right. But worked fine with factory ammo.
I load for my M1 Garand with no problems. Haven't tried to load for any other auto loader. I told this friend I would try but make no promises. I was thinking along the lines you were. Shoot a few factory loads over the crony and try to duplicate it.

more than likely the friend that owned it before never used small base dies. I have a bar in 300 win mag I had to buy small base dies works great with reloads . small base dies closely duplicate factory ammunition

when I bought my bar a friend told me I wouldn't be able to reload for it. he had tried over the years and had the same results as your friend did. I asked him about small base dies he had never heard of them  I bought a set and never had any chambering problems

I think the small base dies just may be the answer. I now remember reading about them some where before. Remembering any thing at my age is a miracle!  :)
  Thanks.
