My wife having Parkinson's disease, she has a handicapped tag, since walking very far is very difficult. I refrain from using the handicapped spaces. Instead, I drop her nearer the store entrance and find a parking spot further out...
Think about it...those handicapped spaces are used by the handicapped..often these handicaps include depth perception, spatial recognition, poorer vision and an ill-conceived idea of their driving abilities...which can result in dinged fenders, brushes and scratches. There too, one often sees doors swung open without concern for where they come to a stop.
Chances for damage rise in the handicapped spaces; most often not intentional...but still damage..
