A real bright light in the woods one night
« on: January 05, 2004, 05:27:37 PM »
Ya'll,  As god is my witness this is true. I saw it and Mary did too.
 We were coon hunting back in 86-87-88 with the best pack of hounds that anyman ever had. All poisoned and gut shot a couple of years later  by two brothers named Hall, who are in the Texas pen and will die there.
          One night after a late dinner I picked up my gun and the dogs all started barking. Mary and I got our lights, water and such,  we opened the door and all the dogs ran out going crazy, they knew we were going coon hunting. We started down the dead end road to the creek, like we did almost every night, we turned right and began to cross a 5 acre meadow.
 It was a cold but not windy or uncomfortable night. We reached the woods and walked a ways, and it never started , we just all of a sudden became aware of a bright light. Behind us, about the other side of the field. It was brighter than a helecopter light, a big spotlight like on a truck. It was as bright as the sun, it was day, but without glare or brightness,  WHITE LIGHT, LIKE MOON LIGHT.  We were scared and I'm not kidding!
We were 35 years old! I was scared! I had no idea what it was. It was white and not like a machine made light. It was so profoundly bright that ...well... bright!!!  But cool white and with no glare.
 Anyway we hauled ass! We ran like rabbits way down the creek and without lights!!! We were booking! We turned and crossed a mile of open land and came home tired as if we had actually been coon hunting.
            The next day went back down to where the light source ... stood, no, no tracks.  Hovered? no. No sounds. Anyway there wern't any tracks.
 No tracks no sound I will never pretend to know what it was. Thats what is so scary to this day! 15 years later!  And it really happened!
 This is true, no BS.                         Jack Hamilton {the Knife}

Hey Jacktheknife  :D
I think what you seen that night was what is called a "foxfire" Its a ball of phosferous gas that drifts along in woods and fields. It glows real bright, its white most of the time.  I seen one  when I was a kid about 11, or so. It scared the hell out of me  :shock:  I was in a bottom squirrel hunting, it was still dark, and I seen this thing  about big as a basketball just drifting along through the woods. I thought it was a ghost ! I ran home and told my grand mother, she was 78 at the time and knew of such things. Once she explained it I never was worried about it again.  I was 23 when I finally seen another one. I tried to get up close to it but it would move. It was weird! Like it knew I was after it. My Granny said you cant ever catch one. It was the Lords light, and it would burn your hair off !  :)  I don't know about all that but they are a sight to see! :eek:

The light...

Wow, Thanks for the input Matlock.
   The one we saw was 20'-30' in diameter. It didn't move but just sat at tree top level.  A man who leases the land across the road saw the same thing too! But 60-70 miles from here down at the Cedar Creek lake area.  About 13 years ago.  He described it perfectly and I know he saw the same thing. Phosporus gas  hmmm. I appreciate it and for years I thought I may have been imagining it,  except  Mary saw it too!   Luck   J. Knife
