You get what you pay for....SSK 376 Barrel Rocks at the Rang
« on: February 21, 2004, 09:27:47 AM »
I was able to get a little range time on my new SSK 376 Styer barrel the other day.  All I can say is WOW!!!
With the 15 inch barrel plus the custom brake, it doesn't kick any more than my 15 inch TC 308 unbraked barrel.
I ran about 40 rounds through it at the range session, and was very impressed not only with the quality of workmanship, but the inate accuracy of the barrel.
My average 3 shot groups at 100 yards off my day pack were about  1 1/2 inches with the Hornady 225 gr. factory ammo.  My best 3 shot group was 2 shots in one elongated hole with the third shot 1/2 inch away.
The only problem I had was that the 270 gr. Hornady ammo must be loaded just a tad bit hotter, as the case head swell would not allow the extractor to grab the case, and I had to push it out with a cleaning rod.
I am going to get some handloads with a few grains less powder, and see what it's maximum tolerances are.
The 225 gr. ammo though, performed perfectly.
Thanks to those who gave me feedback regarding barrel and caliber selection for my hand cannon of choice.

Sorry, I just saw that I must have ran out of room in the title.
That should be Rocks at the Range, not Rang
