Getting Started for Indiana deer season - What do I need?
« on: August 06, 2012, 03:24:37 AM »

Hi All,
Earlier this summer I decided I would skip the first crossbow legal Indiana deer season, but as the season start approaches I just can't do it.  So I ordered an entry level crossbow package last night.  Package comes with 3 bolts and field points.  So my question is what's the MINIMUM I need to get started?  Obviously a target (local Wal-mart has a decent price on one), but how many bolts and broadheads do I need?  Anything else?

Thanks,
Dan

You will want a crossbow target, not just an archery target.  Those bolts are heavy and will bury easily (or pass right through in a couple of shots) in a regular archery target and wrinkle the fletchings quickly.  You also need rail lube and string wax.  If the bolts that came with the setup are carbon, those 3 should last you a long time as long as you don't hit the spine or loose them.  Good luck.
