I want to shoot in the GSSF match that will be in my area this summer. This will be my first time shooting competition since I was 18 and used to shoot metallic silhouettes with a borrowed pistol from another competitor because I was to young to get a pistol permit. We shot chickens (25 yds), pigs (50 yds), turkeys (75 yds and rams (100 yds). I'm looking for information on what type of equipment is recommended or required that I'll need or should consider getting for a GSSF match, what type of holster, mag. pouches, sights ect.

I have a G22 40 S&W full size service pistol, it has a 4.49" barrel with a 6.49" line of sight. I have a LWD 9mm conversion barrel for it. It shoots pretty well with the factory 40 S&W barrel. However, I can shoot quite a bit faster as well as more accurate with the 9mm barrel in it. Since the class(es) I'm going to shoot in has to be with a stock Glock. I'm seriously considering buying a G34 9mm full size long slide & barrel. It has a 5.32" barrel with a 7.56" line of sight, a little lighter trigger pull and adjustable sights. The height, width and weight are the same on both pistols. I think I'll be able to shoot better with the longer pistol in the smaller cartridge.

Any thoughts and/or ideas? Is a longer slide/barrel setup generally advantageous for this type of shooting? My G22 is my concealed carry pistol along with my G27. I'd like a dedicated target/match type pistol. Does the G34 9mm sound like I'm on the right track?

Thanks, NYH1.

The 34/35 pistols are great range guns. I've got full size Glocks in 9/40 as well as a 35 and 36. I've never shot a GSSF match, so not sure what's involved. I would suggest you look online for gun clubs in your area for IDPA matches as well. Most areas have these matches year round and would be good gun handling practice with your carry gun. Fun too!

Glock mtches are a lot of fun and are geared toward the folks who do not compete. Normally there are three different stages or courses of fire (falling plates, 5 to Glock, and Glock M)  all begin in the low ready position, no drawing from the holster and no rapid reloading. If you bought a new Glock today, and about 150 rounds of ammo, you would have all you need to compete in a match  .  Go to the GSSF web site to read the rules, see the classes or division of shooters and firearms, and other information such as joining GSSF, match dates and locations, match registration, match results, etc. Shooting the G-34/35 would limit you to competing in only the competion division.
Good luck and welcome to the addiction.

i believe you will need a minimum of 4 magazines because u use 4 mags on the plates, you will have to reload mags after the plates and whatever you shoot next same thing. these guys now bring 10 loaded mags so they don't have to reload but you can work your way up to the extra mags.               if i can help anymore please pm me.             BP
