Would it hurt?
« on: July 09, 2012, 03:13:01 PM »

Im working up some near max .357 mag 180 gr xtp loads for my contender(nothing hotter than published data). My friend is sniffing around for a big bore snubby, so i figured id let him see if he liked the recoil of my j frame with these full house loads. Would two or three cylinders of these harm my 3" model 60?

I've shot a huge pill of max book loads in my 3" M60 and it's still as tight as it was new. Even max book loads these days are light compared to what the round used to be in the early days. Thes days they aren't even pushing 125s at the velocity it started out with using 158s.

Now I'm not sure he's gonna like the recoil of max loads with 180s but so long as you stick with SAAMI pressure loads I can't imagine it harming the gun.

I suspect it wont hurt the gun....his wrists on the other hand....I'm with GB on this one.  I use Rem 125gr Golden Sabers in my 3" 60 because they are a mid-range loading (btw a full house .357 and a +P+ .38 sp)and my hit potential goes wayyy up....

Planning on loading some stout 140gr xtps for my j frame. The 180s are for my contender.
