17 Rem Range Report
« on: September 02, 2012, 09:22:53 AM »
Well got around to taking the new girl out for a dance this morning = I'm Impressed , only had time to do up one batch of rounds using the 20g Hornady V-max and Varget yet it looks very promising . I started with a load of 23.0 grains and worked up 1/2 grain at a time for group of 5 shots each to a max of 24.5 grains . Wish I had more time to load more as the ones that were at 24.5 showed the beginings of truely good groups ( 3/4" ) @ 100 and even the lower loads were in the 1 1/4 " area .

I still have some 25g Hornady HP's to try along with some 30g Berger's , those may have to wait a couple weeks , that nasty 4 letter word WORK keeps getting in the way .  ;D ;D :P

you never said where you had the conversion work done....  I still haven't found any one to do the work on my .17 barrel.

It was Fred Moreo @ Sharp Shooters Supply in Delphos Oh.

Fred does fine work but he's backed up most of the time , its best to drop him an E-mail or call his wife Lisa and see when he can fit it in . You'll also have to send along a 223 ejector when you send the barrel , Brownell's has them for around $10.00 .

Fred does some good work. Had him drill and tap a Marlin 882SS years ago. Kind of had forgotten about his shop until I saw this post. May have to stop by and pay him a visit the next time I'm in Delphos. Thanks for the reminder!

Thanx, Stimpy.  If I say you sent me, will he know who I'm talking about?  Anyway I'm going a couple steps down from the .17 Rem and have it chambered for the .17 Hornet.

I think at this point I'll wait until hunting season is over in case I want to hunt with the  other barrel that fits this action.  I've bookmarked Sharp Shooters Supply and I'll talk with them about when I can get the work done.
