Who , of all the manufactures, makes the highest quality Model 94 Winchester type rifle ? Thanks for your opinion,

a buddy of mine purchased a nice pre 64 win model 94 for 450$ at the last gun show we went to.what are the new clones going for?
i passed up a couple of newer winchesters for 350$ with a bit of corrosion on the reciever. id rather have them than a clone tho.

The only clone I'm aware of is the Mossberg and it's not anywhere near the quality of anything that wears the Winchester roll mark on the barrel.
The new 94's being built in the Miroku plant are running right at 1000$, but their quality and finish is way above anything thats came out in quite some time.

so we did not buy enough to keep winchester in business here in the USA at their old price but now we get to finance japan and actually consider buying these for 1000.00??????? Give me a Henry!!!

There was more than not selling enough going on. The city of New Haven wanted some 20 million dollars basically as extortion money to keep the plant there. The unions wouldn't agree to move the jobs to South Carolina, so there wasn't much they could do but shut down.
750$ for a brass colored club like the Henry or 1000$ for the grace and balance of the Winchester... I know where I'ld put the other 250$.

I own a pre-64 94 and a Miroku Winchester 92.  The Winoku is a real dandy rifle but expensive.
 
The pre-64 94 is a great rifle.  Mine is 32 Special and priced in the mid 500 range with a steel Lyman 66 receiver sight.  It had very little use. 
 
I have no experience with the clones.

Winchester made some of the best and some of the worst. I have a pre 64 32 spl that is good. I have a 7X30 Waters W 24 inch bbl made by US Repeating arms that has been a good gun . It has taken alot of deer , most with one shot.

i dont know but if the miroku guns they make now were anything like  the fit and finish of my browning mod 53 made around 99, they are prob worth a 1000 buks. id never pay it, but i would pay a good price for a pre 64 if i was in the market.

For a new rifle, the highest quality award, sadly (bad on us), must go to Miroku (Japan) - the fit/finish is light years above what was coming out of the doors in New Haven in the last 50 years before Model 94 production was shut down in the US.
The ONLY downside is the Miroku rifles have the lawyer safeties included in their Winchester contract.
 
For a used rifle, one would have to spend easily 3x a Miroku's cost, IF one could find a Model 94 that came from the Winchester Custom Shop - not easily found - to match the fit/finish of a Miroku Model 94.
 
For a relative bargain, any pre-64 Model 94 in decent used condition is a good value.

Yeah being made in Japan is not a bad thing now days I have a Miroku 95 take down and fit and finish is perfect but I have some M70s Feather weights in wsm cals out of New Haven Ct. and they are the same way. I always figured it was a union busting deal that shut down the New Haven plant?

why buy a jap gun you can always find a new in box unfired old model at the gun shows.thats what i did a lot cheaper than the Winchesters made now. ;D

Unless your looking for a collectors grade safe queen, just go to your LGS and pick up a shooter Winchester.  The what I did when I got the bug to get a Whinny.   Got a nice shooter 30-30 '66 nothing fancy just a good shooter. ;D   My LGS has anywhere from 2-10 Whinny's laying around.

I forgot to mention I have a 94 trails end case hardend and octagon barrel in 45colt and fit and finish is perfect too.

Yeah your right I have a Marlin 1894 44mag pistol grip pre rem and its very nice too. When I bought my 95 Winchester it was from a catalog and I didn't know it was Jap.

I got a great pre 64 last year from a guy who was selling a buddies collection who had passed. I wasn't really in the market for one, but always wanted one.... It has become one of my better purchases in a long time...

I have a 1958 Model 94 Winchester 3030 that my dad bought new, and gave to me. 54 years later, it is as dependable as it has always been, and accurate far beyond what most people think.
