« on: September 17, 2012, 06:45:04 AM »
It's a pretty favorable report on the little handi in 300..

Check out this video on YouTube:

For some unknown reason I am unable to comment on uTube about the topic. I was going to direct him here...

Maybe one of you guys can...

Tim shoulda told the guy to read the FAQs before he started ::)

Seriously, as much as I like shorties, I'm unimpressed.  I have no need for a quiet or suppressed rifle, and I believe I can match performance with a few of my larger bore Handis and Trail Boss if I want to run sub-sonic.  Of course, the flash guard is important.  Ya can't let the Zombies see your position.  Geeze, give me a break.

OK Pete, cut us some slack ::) If I could buy a 32/20 I would not want one either, BUT, since they don't make 'em and I have enough 223 brass to carpet my living room , this is as close as I am going to get. Isn't it ironic, the latest thing available is almost as good as what they had 120 years ago?? ???

Here's something from Jim Taylor on silent loads for the .32-20.  I'm sure you'll see these bullets as well.  There are loads for it from this all the way up into the 2 grands. ;)

Pete

Totally Silent Loads:
These loads are very low pressure. You need to watch for stoppages with these loads. I have never experienced one but it does not mean it could not happen. Accuracy with these loads is on the order of -inch groups at 50 feet. All 3 of these loads are totally silent. All you will hear from the rifle is the hammer fall.

I know how to do that. ;)   Ya sell the contender barrel, buy a .303 Brit barrel blank and stub it.   Ask Larry Trotter. 8)

The more I read your postings, the more I say to myself your not gonna be happy with any "also ran" in the 32-20 range. Get the parts together and talk to Larry maybe he will make another 32-20.

Here is mine now.

Here is some accuracy loading I'm working with. Its a 123g bullet made for the '39.

Shoots pretty good too.

After a bit of tuning, its shoots this at 50 yards.

Sorry Brother, you KNOW its REALLY WHAT YOU WANT!!!  ::) ;)

That's a nice looking and shooting rifle.  Is that the same 22 inch .303 Brit that's on mine?  Somehow, I just can't warm up to thumbholes.  I've got the same phobia about compound bows and crossbows.  I guess that's part of being an old fart.  I've got a box of .310 Sierras, loaded a few, and they shot well.  If I recall correctly, they're at about 2 grand over 110 or 296.

Yup I'm sure it's same as your Peter!

I have had better accuracy with 4227. I have chrono'd anything yet.  But the last target is what it shoots!

I always like the looks of the Tholes. I have a fancy thumb hole on a 98 Mauser made by Bell and Carlson. On the handis I'll never have one on a hunting gun as its too slow to get to the hammer. But this is more of a fun gun for me and being pretty is a plus too.

I've been telling you since you got it to try the '39 boolits ;)

I don't understand why guys are going nuts over this round... what a joke. If I wanted a gutless 30 caliber round I'd load up my 30-30 with trail boss and be done with it. If I want a fun little round that mirrors a 32-20 I'm with Pete and Brian... I'll stick with my 32-20 Handi. ;)  I've got the first one that Larry built and it's got a home for life. :)

Everone talks up the 30-30 and the max. Why not do it right and get a 30-06 and a whelen and load them up and down to whatever velocity you want. Everyone tries to push the 357 max to limit with big bullets. Why not use a whelen start load that will do as good as the max will. Same goes for the 30-30 vs. the 30-06. It all boils down to it is something new. And it is fun to shoot.
