Late response here, but a friend of mine had those tubular bags of sand in the back of his truck and had to slam on his brakes at an intersection, still hit the vehicle that ran the light. He ducked his head instinctively and the tube sand came through the back window and glanced off the back of his head. Headache rack would have prevented that and if he hadn't ducked way down in that old truck, or if he wasn't only 5'8", it could have been much worse. I think they're a good idea. In a newer truck ducking down may not have helped him considering the airbag...
