Marlin and H&R Forum are History!!!!!
« on: February 04, 2004, 12:02:12 PM »
Well the rumor had been going around that Marlin & H&R where getting ready to drop their web page and they did it.  I spent a lot of great hours on those web pages and now they are gone.   I could see them dropping the H&R page due to all the complaining about problems with thier guns.    But why the Marlin page it's the reason I got my 1894C.  This has changed my mind about future  gun buys Puma leverguns and Rossi single shots are sounding better all the time.

Wow! Never thought that would happen. Don't let that discourage you from getting a 1894. I've got two and I luv 'em!
P.S. That will bring more people here, it's been getting a little thin here lately.

Both were excellent sites and I found them informative.  Sure sorry to see them go, wish they would have given a reason.

A bunch of the old Marlin Talk members have showed up at the Marlin Firearms Collectors Assn. forum! I was just there, and it's like old home week at the "general gun questions and answers" thread!
I am REALLY bummed out that Marlin would drop the MT site! It was a regular stop for me each day!

:(  Maybe over the next few days some of the Marlin forum guys will start checking in here and start up a Marlin topic or two.  I sure will miss the old forum.  Used to check it about every day or two.  A lot of that talk helped me to pick out a 45-70 Guide Gun and develop some good loads for it.

Have a good day, Krag2

I checked that site everyday. A lot of good info from people.  Now I'll be here and at leverguns.com  It was a really good forum at MT. Anybody Know why they pulled the plug? I'm thinking it's a legal/liability issue or they are cutting back and don't want to maintain it.

Every time I start to enjoy something like Marlin Talk, the rug gets yanked out.  I guess the guy who predicted this would happen was right.  Too many people started complaining about the Quality Control at Marlin and they didn't like it.  :(

I tell ya it's a hidden conspiracy of sorts.  First it was talk.hunters with all their pages and now Marlin Talk.  I'm bummed.

We're getting narrowed down.

Disapointing for sure even though I am a moderator here at this board at the rimfire section I also go to several other boards and Marlin was one of them I went to a lot. I never went to the NEF section much what is this about their guns being bad?? GUess I will have to check out that Marlin Collectors forum and hopefully some of the guys will show up here. Jim

I Hate To See Marlin Talk Go
« Reply #10 on: February 04, 2004, 05:55:27 PM »
Hi Guys,
I'm new here.  I just got signed up yesterday. I was a regular visitor on the Marlin Talk website, and was disappointed to find it gone tonight.  I do, however, see some familiar names here at Greybeard.  I guess this will be my new home.  I suspect we'll be seeing a few more heading this way.
A couple of weeks ago I posted the question of "Where does everybody go when Marlin Talk is off-line?".  I think it was Jack Fish that listed Greybeard as another site to visit...good advice.
To sum it up, I'm glad I found you guys and am looking foward to regular visits.  :D
Later,

Running a free forum site ain't free to those of us that own them. It is expensive. Too many thing a profit can be turned on them and find out that's just not so. I figure as long as I break even that's not too bad. Even that is getting more difficult. Looks like I'm gonna hafta go to a  dedicated server real soon. Just hope the advertising bucks will cover it.

Don't know if that had anything to do with the Marlin decision. Could just be they didn't like folks knocking their guns on thier site. Seems like about every week you hear about another big site folding for one reason or another.

Well The flak Marlin was getting did not really hurt them a bit. You heard how Marlin always stood behind the product You heard were not only was the problem corrected but the customer got a few freebees while it was there like an action inhancement or something.
The Marlin forum introduced new Marlin products as well as it did it's own gun reviews. The two years on the forum I was influenced enough through the membership , to purchase a 1895 Guide , 336/35 and 17VS.
Had I been on the forum when the 336 Er and 30/30 CB been for sale they most problaby would have been in my gun safe also.
I think Marlin took a step back today and lost a good source for review / new model introduction and sales.
Are we a little ticked? yes it wouldhave been nice to grab some E-mail address's and maybe some referance from the achives.

As for me , Just bought a new Winchester 94 late this morning.

They are a gun manufacturer not a web-hosting service. The fact that they closed down a chat board has no effect on the quality of their rifles.

And I doubt that they'll notice the 1 or 2 gun sales to you that they lost. Sean

I think it will cost them more then 1 or 2 sales.  Like many people looking for a new gun I checked many gun makers sites.  The problem with most sites is they don't tell you much.  What hooked me on Marlins was Marlin Talk.  Before Marlin Talk I don't think I ever surfed a gun forum.  I was just getting back into shooting after many years.   A lot of new shooters are in the same boat.  Now if I went to a general gun site and asked questions you would get a debate about which is better Win, Marlin or Puma.  Most newbies would just find this confusing.  On the Marlin site you learned about one product and became a loyal customer.  Frankly without the Marlin site I would of bought a Puma.  With the help of the Marlin Talk I got the right rifle for me a good load and bagged my first deer in 20 years.  I'm not going to run out and sell my 1894C but I sure won't fell guilty when I get a Puma.  I think I was getting to be like one of those guys who would only drive a Chevy or Ford.

It does kinda seem in the interest of a manufacturer to have a discussion forum for their wares but all may not think so.

BTW down in the Request a New Forum near the bottom of the Forums Index is a POLL asking if you guys think there is a need for a new Marlin Forum here or if you just want to use this one. So far I've not really seen a lot of new activity on this one but we'll see how it goes.

I hadn't checked the Marlin site for a few days and when I checked it today, bam, Marlin talk is gone. That stinks. I may not be a Marlin die hard, but man you could find some great and interesting info on that site. I am very sad to see it go

The latest word is that Marlin Talk will come back on for a short period. No posting will be allowed, but it will give an opportunity to download archives and gather email addresses. Marlin has become increasingly concerned about possible liability for info posted on the site, and, at the same time, they do not want to go with moderators,so, they are shutting down. I guess this is one more thing we can thank lawyers for.

could it be that they didnt like what some people said. there alot like ruger there in that they dont really listen to what there customers want they make what they think theyll want. Good example is the new .475 that they built on the 95 action instead of the 94 talk about having your head in the sand!

If i bought a marlin and it was defective,i sure would complain on their site.I also would send it back and then post how great they were in fixing the problem. All my marlin rifles were great so thats what i posted about them.Marlin will lose alot of sales because they dropped MT.Most people bought after viewing the site.Bottom line is Profits rule!

Hi all. My first post here. Thanks for having me, GB. I am also a former MT member. Big Bore Forum was responsible for my purchases of 1895G, 444P, & 1895M. All new rifles. Also ended up with 444S, 1894's in 44 & 357, & 1895SS purchased used. To say that the forum had an impact on sales would be an understatement. Was really sorry to see it go. However I do see some familiar names here.
