Today's cure for negativism
« on: July 08, 2012, 11:29:40 PM »
Dalai Lama Like anyone else, I too have the potential for violence; I too have anger in me. However, I try to recall that anger is a destructive emotion. I remind myself that scientists now say that anger is bad for our health; it eats into our immune system. So, anger destroys our peace of mind and our physical health. We shouldn’t welcome it or think of it as natural or as a friend

That leaves out the stress involved with putting up with idoits . It can't be in ones best health to deal with stress ! Much like a steam release on a kettle if one does not vent from time to time they risk exploding !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

The goal is not to allow those idiots to upset you in the first place. I must admit - That is easier said than done.

I wanted to smack the guy who reclined his seat enfrente me on the plane this morning, but that is against the rules, and he was just being thoughtless, not venal. Sigh. I attribute my unfortunate sentiment to no coffee on the a/c!
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

How is reclining your seat on a plane, being thoughtless?

Greatly reduces space for person behind you. I never do it.

It was on an embraer.. Little tight. Flying weekly, you just live with the little indignities....

When the seat in front of you is reclined, the only space that is taken from you is the space you dont use. That is unless you sit with your back learched all the way forward. You still have 100% of the leg room so I'm still confused.

2 drivers driving down the same road. Both are almost hit by the same reckless driver . One gets upset and starts to blow their horn repeatedly, flying into a fit of road rage. The other just continues on his way thankful he wasn't in an accident.. Same situation-2 completely reactions. We've all seen it.

If that is the case, then you recline your seat back and you get the space back! Cant you study in the reclined position? Why should hte guy in front of you not sleep if needed just so you can claim some uneeded air space?

I have flown hundreds and hundreds of times all over this globe and I never thought a passenger who reclined his seat was thoughtless.

Seems reasonable: You buy the seat, you sit in the seat and that seat reclines and reclining is of little consequence to anyone around you. So yes, I don't understand what your complaining about. I guess going to the bathroom is thoughless as well! After all if you sit in the middle or window, you have to ask the people next to you to move out. Afterall, this is a direct assault on your space.....so much more than the seat in front of you reclined back into space that you are not using and dont need.

Yes, they are. So categorizing someone who reclined their seat as "thoughtless" seems ridiculous and, actually thoughtless.

If any one was thoughtless it would be the airlines who crowd the seating. Note a few airlines are removing some seats and expanding leg room for remaining seats.

Shedding light on the problem and confronting people with their unrealistic expectations, is a cure for negativism. If your expectations are too high, you can become negative. The reclining seat issue is just a good example to expand on in this context.

Alright guys.  Here are my thoughts on this Cure for Negativism stuff...

Kimber - These are fine providing you are posting them as a way to make people think in a more positive light and not because you want to use them as a jumping off point to push a political agenda.  You know that there are people on this forum that do not like you and do not like your politics so that being said post this stuff and then if somebody has a criticism about it then be man enough to realize that not eveybody has the same views you do.

Everybody else - Don't go out of your way to flame each other's thoughts or actions that get posted on these threads.  The concept of the idea is a nice one, aimed at changing negative thought patterns even if for a min or two.  Knock off the little knit picky crap you guys have been pulling on this paticular thead.  It's getting old.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

Kimber - These are fine providing you are posting them as a way to make people think in a more positive light and not because you want to use them as a jumping off point to push a political agenda.  This is exactly why I posted these ideas. I post things that are positive and some people think I have a political agenda. What in what I have posted is political. You know that there are people on this forum that do not like you and do not like your politics so that being said post this stuff and then if somebody has a criticism about it then be man enough to realize that not eveybody has the same views you do. If people don't like me, that's their problem. I am man enough and I'm about ready to give up on this cite all together. Gee wiz- post ways to be positive and I get critized because of someone elses negative thoughts.

If you are getting tired of the knit picky crap; why can't I as well , and not be told to be man enough???

I thought I was providing ideas that would enlighten us and help us lead a happier life. Because of the statements made by others --I will no longer be posting " TODAYS CURE FOR NEGATIVISM." for the following reasons :
  • Stop letting others bring you down to their level. – Refuse to lower your standards to accommodate those who refuse to raise theirs.
  • Stop wasting time explaining yourself to others. – Your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it anyway. Just do what you know in your heart is right.

I find as I get older that some of the things that once would anger me don't bother me at all.  Someone can call me a sob, doesn't bother me at all.  I just disregard them which bothers them all the more.

However, I find less patience with stupidity.  I'm working on that.  Some people can't help it.

Your correct. Some people are mentally challenged. The people I have problems with most are those who name call and belittle others. Than  you call them on it, and they get even more belligerent. It's especially true of individuals who have what they perceive as some sort of "power" over you. They have the omnipotent, omniscient complex.

I dont recline seats on a plane and dont like looking at the top of someones head, by and large you will see very few seats in the reclined postions on a plane. If it happens in front of us, as the OP says we must be positive, fight negatism and with our knees tap out the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" on the back of his seat.  ;D
