Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

Sed tamen sal petrae LURO VOPO CAN UTRIET sulphuris; et sic facies tonituum et coruscationem si scias artficium

Could you be more specific about the model of Whitworth?  "12 pounder" could apply to a few different Whitworth products, as he produced both muzzle-loaders and breechloaders in 2.75 inch polygonal bore which is often called "12 pounder."  He produced such a variety of configurations of his various guns that it isn't safe to assume he put the same exact sights on a muzzleloader and a breechloader of the same bore.  I don't know if I have any of the drawings of his sights anyway but it would be easier to check if I knew the exact gun you are talking about..

Thanks for the reply.  I am interested in the sights on the breech loading 2.75" bore gun that had a mounting hole in the breech and a hole in the trunnion band a little bit like a Parrot rifle setup.  I have seen a few blurry photos and that's about it.

I've been thinking about this topic, and I know that we've had past threads where we discussed the Whitworth 12-pounder breech loading rifle's barrel, breech mechanism, carriage, etc., but come to think of it, I can't recall ever seeing an original breech or dispart sight, nor even a detailed drawing of them. I have saved a couple side elevation drawings of this gun that show the sights at a distance, but you can't make out much detail.
Does the Antique Ordnance Publisher's set on this gun contain drawings of the sights?
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

The AOP set of drawings from 1984, # 23, 12 Pdr. Breech- Loading Whitworth Rifle, does not have detailed drawings of the sights .

I've got the AOP and Bill Fetterly drawings, and there is no sight on either.  I'll be seeing Don Lutz (AOP) this weekend and plan to ask him if he has gotten anything since he published last.
