What exactly happens during an "assault weapons ban"?

I'll admit, I had no interest in AR's or AK type weapons during the previous "ban", so I didn't really pay much attention to the restrictions placed upon them.  My "collection" has changed quite drastically since then.....


What should/could we expect if another ban is put into place?  I'm not looking for the "they will take ALL of our guns" rhetoric, because that is pure paranoia....at this point.  What I am looking for is, how will a new ban affect what I currently own?


My understanding is that it was pretty hard to purchase an AR/AK variant during the ban.  But then, the "pre-ban" "post-ban" terms started showing up.


SO....will my collection simply increase in value if new ones will be almost impossible to buy on the open market?  How about the "used gun market", will I be able to sell/trade any of what I have?  How likely is it we will have to modify what we already have, much like owners in California have to do?

that federal ban went our in 2004
but continued in many states


california  just had folks register their assault weapons
then a few years later.....haveing their address...notifies them they had  one year to remove any simi-auto rifle from the state


hawaii...just wanted to register hand  guns....got addresses
10 years latter banned  clips over 10.....this was long before the ''klinton bans''
glocks were soon confiscated


once one class of weapon is  banned
they will begin to ask for ''reasonable gun laws''
we will still be needing to spend the same amount of money to fight them
those that lost their assault weapon  will care even less about your revolver

Hi capacity mags will probably be at the top of the list. The standard thinking seems to be the offender will be "rushed" when he changes mags. Ya right............

YEP. Hi cap will probly mean anything holding more than 10 rds, 5 wouldn't surprise me. For the 1st time in my life I fear my own govt. POWDERMAN.

High cap mags, pistol grips, bayonet lugs, various muzzle attachments and anything made overseas that takes a detachable mag. If we're lucky this wont foray into the realm of online ammo sales and or bullet design. If it does things will get real ugly even for the so called "Fudds"

Lets see, law abiding citizens will be denied the use of:
 
Evil detachable magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds. Having more than 10 rounds in a magazine causes crime.
 
Evil bayonet lugs. Scientific evidence suggests bayonet lugs cause crime
 
Evil flash suppressors and muzzle brakes. Scientific evidence suggests flash suppressors and muzzle brakes cause crime.
 
Evil pistol grips on rifles. Pistol grips cause crime.
 
Evil collapsible stocks. You guessed it-they cause crime.
 
I may have missed a few other evil features that are known to cause crime.
 
If you are not law abiding then an "assault weapons" ban will have no effect on you.

Guns   start   to  reverse  and   get   smuggled   back   accross  the   Mexican   border   at   3  times  the   price .  It  just  creates  a   larger   black   market.

I detest the term ASSAULT RIFLE. That infers that it is only for attacking and not defense. I argued with a guy about this and asked him exactly what he called an assault rifle. He hem hawed a bit then said uhhh, you know. I said, you mean something with a bit of power, short, lt weight, quick to point?? He said, yeah, thats it. I said, well, to me thats a good brush rifle. The liberal democrats don't seem to understand that a rifle like that is used many more times defending lives and homes than in murdering others. POWDERMAN.

will be   EXACTLY the same  as a  ban  on COCAIN  use


law abiding citizens will give them up
criminals  will have a thriving black market
people will re-elect the sheriffs that kick in the  most doors and get tough on ''crime''
