And iffin they'd made decent pistols to stand the potential of the .45 colt the .44mag wouldn't have been needed...

read a few threads on ''44mag vs 45colt''

the pro 45 people will explain  why the 44 is better than the 45

and the 44 shoots flatter than a 45 but not as flat as a 41

Since the AF sent me to Alaska to live here for 4 years a few months back, I have been flirting with getting a new wheel gun. After all, I "need" bear protection. Anyways, I have a little different job here and work with many older civilians or return to active duty officers, and it's interesting to talk to them on their pistol of choice. Most these guys are locals, or have at least been here 15+ years. I was also told by people you needed a minimum of a .44 mag in AK. Well, I can say I have met one person here that carried a .44 mag. The others, .357, or a .45 ACP or .45 colt. I have been wanting a .41 mag for a while now, but this intrigues me even more. I guess once the wife finishes grad school in tow more years, and we have extra income flowing in, I'll start my search for a .41 mag.

I have most caliber handguns in one configuration or another but the 41 has allways been my favorite I just can simply shoot it more acurately than my 44's  or 45's don't know what it is, It's a smith hunter and it just feels perfect in my hands been looking for a set of elk horn grips to compliment it. I don't care what anyone says you can't go wrong with a 41 mag.  Components are a little harder to find but if you cast your own lead buy two molds one around 210gr and one 250gr wfn, and thats all you need.

I don't think so.
We have so many calibers that over lap that if a frame was strong enough for the 454 loading we still would have had a 44 mag
as keith thought the 44 Special was more accurate than the 45 colt.
After all we had the 44 mag and someone made a 454 and a 41 mag as well.  A little more and a little less in power that the 44mag. and all three have their followers as well as the guys that want the hotter 460 or 500 S&W loading.
