Kind of a silly question...41mag/210gr DeepCurl
« on: July 29, 2012, 01:21:22 PM »
Hi Guys,

I shoot a 6 1/2" BH in 41mag.  I like to shoot 250gr WFNGC bullets.  I live in MASS.  Our regs prevent the shipment of components or loaded ammo into the state.  I'm running low on bullets and am finding that allot of suppliers won't ship to me.

So, until I get this sorted out...don't ask....does anyone have experience hunting with the 210gr DeepCurl, especially in the 41mag on hogs??  I can easily buy these locally and I never worry about calibers or bullets on deer.  I do obsess about hogs and bears which I think are a bit tougher than deer...so...if it works on hogs, it'll work on deer.

What do you think?

Thanks T, but my casting days are long gone.  Did it for years and found it was right up there with case prep!

Are you saying that I can't send you any of my 230 gr Keith slugs? They will knock half the fur & all the feathers off a big feral hog! I also make a 250 gr LBT that will cut through them even easier.

drdougrx, I to don't have any experience with the DeepCurl. Probably work very well. I was just wondering, and I'm not trying to open a can of worms, or create a fuss. It's been over 15 years since I was in Mass. for gun shows.(use to do them at the Big E, in W.Springfield I believe) When you say you can't get any components shipped, or ammo, does that mean directly to you? Could you get them shipped to a local gun shop? I know alot of shooters in Ill. go to states bordering to get ammo and reloading supplies. Like drinkers or smokers buying from a neighboring state thats cheaper. As long as it's for personel use, nothing illegal about it. gypsyman

Hello All!!
A profound Thank-you to all!  What our stupid regs say is that no ammunition, which is defined to include components, can be shipped into our state to a private residence or individual.  I can order through a local dealer...who isn't too willing...they say, "what's the difference from what you want to what I have in stock??"  The difference matters to me...I'm paying....nuff said!
Dick - Thank-you for your very kind offer...I'll PM you if I may.
Mikey - Ditto!
Gypsyman - I do purchase allot of my reloading needs from out of state which is legal, and am working on it.

I suggest you take up sixshot on his gererous offer. I understand the law in MA prevents the SALE of ammunition, not the gifing of cast lead components. Actually, the law only prevents the SALE of ammunition and components to someone who is under 18 YOA and/or does not posses the proper licenses or permits to posses or purchase within the state. I say put the cast slugs in a box and send them US mail and be done with it. If you feel as if you are unwilling to do this I would be VERY willing to take up sixshot on his offer and even pay him for his efforts and I will load those bullets for my .41 Mag...go for it....<><.... :)

I could very well be wrong with my understanding, however if that is true you cannot even purchase ammo out of state and bring/ship/transport it into the state yourself...silly...

Haven't tried that bullet but did use Hornady XTPs on a fairly large hog once. I won't ever do that again. They just didn't penetrate enough to do any good at all until I finally managed to get into position to put one in the head up close. The hog was already wounded and I was the only one with a gun and for sure that .41 and the Hornady XTPs didn't seem enough for the job. Why the heck did I take it that morning rather than my .454?

Bill, we've all done the same thing & then ask ourselves later....why did I take that gun! I've done it many times, for me its usually because I don't always know what I'm going to run into, sometimes its a pleasure run & turns into hand to hand combat with a big badger or something even bigger, you just never know.

MSP-RET....I stated the law in my earlier post.  There's no legal way to purchase ammo/components on-line.  Midway/Cabelas and few others won't sell to MASS mail order...Grizzley now won't either which is too bad as I liked their Cast Performance products.  I can certainly receive "gifted" items!  I have been in contact with Dick and won't need to take him up on his most generous offer after all.
I have since found a source for 230gr SWCGC in 41mag that will do just fine!!!

Try MidSouth Shootng Supplies,  They will ship to Massachusets as long as you fax them your License to Carry.   I have been buying all my components from either them or the Cabela's in East Hartford CT.  Massachusetts certainly does make it as difficult as possible.  If you haven't already now is a good time to join G.O.A.L.
