Don't have a Contender in 204 so i can't answer your question. I do have a Savage rifle in 204. Most accurate rifle i have ever owned. I am sure someone will be here to give you and answer. Just be patient.

I think there are more rifle barreled Contenders and Encores than pistols. And you might want to show a little more patience and wait for replies before making a snotty post. That doesn't go over well here.

I had a 15 inch encore,It shot really good with R15 and federal 205M primer groups would open up with rem 7 1/2 I tryed win 748 IMR 4198 and benchmark but the R15 would shot dime sized groups at 100,Its a slow powder for pistol but accurate and speeds were'nt real high with that powder and it was'nt a max load.

Perhaps bob kudile should conclude that no one has the experience about which he was asking rather than displaying a flair for sarcasm.

I've had no experience with the 204, but when it first came out it quickly gained a reputation of being quite a loud screamer and flame thrower in the shorter tubes...seemed much more adaptable to the carbine barrel. I really don't recall much disscussion about the pistol barrels on GBO.

I have the 204 Ruger in the 14" blued Contender barrel. It shoots well and so far have only shot factory Hornady ammo. Some say that the 20" length is best for this chamber but I am a short tube shooter. My brother had the carbine length and accuracy was not any different. His might have been around 150 FPS faster but then again when you are around 3600 FPS I have not yet seen a coyote be able to out run the 32 grain bullet.

I also have the Tactical 20 in the 15" length. I reload for this one of course and using 10X it shoots faster than my rifle 204 Ruger.

For some reason it seems that there are not very many people shooting the 204 in a 14" Contender. There is some bad press on the 204 in a 14" Contender. I read the article. As I recall it is on the website of a popular company that supplies parts and works on Encores and Contenders. Seems like the gist of the article was that the velocity was not that impressive.

I had the 15 in. encore my speeds were low but with other powders I did get some very close to 3500 fps but was'nt as accurate as my load and I was'nt really maxd out from book charges thats with 11 inches less of barrel than rifle speeds,it is'nt that bad in the pistol lenghts,ou not going to get rifle speeds with a short barrel but very respectable.

I shoot the .204 in my Encore with a rifle barrel. I love this round and love to shoot it. It is more accurate then I am!!!

I have to admit that I own a 14" 204 barrel and haven't mounted it to a frame yet. I sure like it in a 21" though.

I've got one Bob, the 14" G2 in .204. I love it. It is just a blast to shoot. It is a very very accurate flat shooter. It does make some noise but it is fun. My wife loves to shoot it as well. She will not stop shooting it until all of the ammo is gone. I got it about a year ago, shot it with the open sights for a while until it became obvious it was accurate farther out than I could see, then I scoped it. The factory Hornady ammo works fine and it's fast (4100fps) but I have a lot of time on my hands in the winter so I reload. I've found that my pistol likes the Sierra Blitzking 32gr. It's a little slower than what Hornady claims but at 3700fps the Blitzking with Ramshot TAC 26.0gr is still a smoking load.
If I'm doing my part I can clover leaf a group at 100yds, and 2" groups all day at 200yds. When I want to just have fun it's the barrell I grab. Whe the wife wants to shoot it's the barrell I hide.

I'm shooting 32gr Vmax outta a 18" full bull barrel. Handloads with 29gr of H4895. Don't know velocity buys its a damn laser beam out to 200yrds!

You get 4100fps from factory ammo out of a 14" tube??? That is screaming!

Rule of thumb for a round like that is a change in velocity of 40fps per inch of barrel change. So that round would do roughly 4500fps out of my 24" 204 encore barrel...

Yup, it's a screemer. Went out sunday with two different loads 50gr. Nosler Balistic Tip & 32 gr. Sierra Blitzking. The rifle range, where I can get the distance, was all full up so I had to go to the pistol range. The pistol range is limited to 50yd but at that range I could not tell a difference in accuracy. Both rounds were on the money.

I can't offer information on the 14" barrel but would love to see more load data on the caliber. I have a flute Encore barrel that i STILL can't get it to group tighter that 3/4" at 100 yards. It should be shooting at one third of that.

I also have the 204 t/c 14" and its a blast to shoot,have a bull barreled HR in 204, both are crow dusters. Looks like pillow feathers flying every where at 150 - 300 yards
the 35 grain varmint grenades from midway are most accurate I have found. like many say, its shooting better then I can hold it

Do you have other guns that shoot 1/4"?? That is not exactly something everyone can do or every 204 can do... There is tons of data on this load. Check out http://www.204ruger.com/forum/ . Don't know what you are shooting, but for my encore I've had the best luck with 32gr bullets.

I had that site bookmarked but still can't do better with load data from any site. I have a few varmint guns that group that tightly and a 1/4" at 100 yards isn't asking much at all from such a small caliber. Im shooting 32 BlitzKings from Sierra with Remington brass with no luck. Cradle the gun in a solid rest without any pressure on the barrel, place your thumb on the rear of the trigger guard and your index finger on the trigger and pinch. You'd be amazed how well guns can group.
