You got to love the 22 cal. CB
« on: July 09, 2012, 05:54:58 PM »
I've been invaded by racoons!!! they are mugging my bird feeders
I live in the country and generally speaking noise is not an issue but I'm raising my grandkids at 3 and 5 so at 1a.m. sound has become an issue
The 22 cal. CB long shot from my Remington pump is quiet, accurate, and deadly.on the rascals. My yard lights only reach out to about 20 yards and the 22CB's give me plenty of accuracy and lethality I'll explain the nights carnality tomorrow morning
Based on my use of air guns and the range of CB rounds I can't see the use of an air gun.

I use the CB's for the same thing. I keep a Remington pump and a Marlin 39 loaded with CB shorts for the possoums that love the cat and dog food on the porch. It is also good for keeping  the pigens out of my bird feeders.

I use an old Remington Model 4 with the CB on coons.  I live in a rural subdivision, so noise IS a factor for me.  I am pretty impressed with the thump it delivers.  It's pretty accurate on turtles out to about 30 yards too.  It's also the first gun my 4 year old has fired.  I am completely comfortable letting him shoot the CB rounds in it with no hearing protection at the pond.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

I have a box of the long CB caps sitting on the desk beside me right here. Very useful. Coons, squirrels in my pecan trees, and cats the neighbors let roam.

I bought two cases (5000 each) of CB longs and shorts years ago. Love 'em. Shot many a possum, rabbit, squirrel and tin can with them.

Usefull to protect my cats from animals in the neighborhood that might mess with them.

I've shot some CCI quiet shorts in my Henry. Have to move the elevator ramp up all the way to hit the gong at 100 yards.
Tried the CCI quiet LRs in my scoped CZ; they never rose to scope's line of sight set for std ammo, and wouldn't group.
Fun to shoot in the house though.

I have been using the CB longs for some time, they won't cycle my 10/22 but all I have to do is rack the action by hand. I have try's the shorts but they jam up the 10/22 action when hand cycled. I did just pick up a box of the CCI 22Quiets. They won't cycle through my 10/22 or my Mk2 target but They do cycle through my 22lr conversion kit in my AR15. I have a yellow JT spring kit ($9) in my AR15 and they run like a champ all day long. sounds like I'm shooting a suppressed 22 out to 40yards they are only about 2 inches low. After finding this out I went back and bought a brick of them.

I've shot thousands of them,, but i've now switched to Super Colibri's when i need extreme quiet, and Remington Ceeebeee's for when a little more noise is acceptable but i need MUCH better killing power than any other LV round.  The Ceebee bullet design easily out performs all the others!
