Marlin camp carbine 9mm

how well does the camp carbine perform with castbullets ?
is this a popular rifle ? still lookin for the 45acp caliber.
any thing of interest that I may need to know.

  I looked into these years ago and decided against it.
 
  Repeated reports, on line, as to the .45:   (i) the rifle has a plastic "buffer fitting" near the end of the receiver which doesn't last long before it cracks (and apparently, these are hard to find), and (ii) the stock tends to crack just behind the receiver.   I think Marlin dropped this rifle in .45 because of these problems, a while before they dropped the 9mm.

The problems of the "buffer" and stock damage have been cured by American ingenuity.  After Marlin discontinued the Camp 9 and 45, thinkers and doers devised several cures for the weak recoil spring problem and the weak buffer problem.  If you get a Camp just put a 16.5 or a 21 lb spring replacement in and add a new Black Rock buffer. These rifles are just lots of fun to shoot and they can be very accurate.

I bought the rifle in 45acp as soon as it came out. The recoil spring and buffer problem were immediate. The vibration was so intense it actually felt as though the stock stung the cheek rested on the stock. Even with light loads, the ejection was violent, and the hope of finding the brass was remote. The casing seemed to have almost as much velocity as the the bullet.
I made a shock buffer replacement, and searched every where for a strong spring including Wolf, but to no avail. Had I found one, I would have kept it.

I just put a 9mm Camp Car on hold at the local candy store.  Does Wolff sell the recoil spring?  What vendor(s) sell the black rock buffer?  Cast bullets okay this gun?   Search first, post questions second, found my answers. :-[

Do yourself a favor and shoot a Hi-Point carbine before you buy the Marlin. You might just decide cheaper is better.

I bought my Camp 9 for less than what the folks on the big auction site want for the Hi Points, either NIB or used, so price isn't an issue.  The Hi Point may in fact be a fine weapon but the styling doesn't work for me.  I like a gun that looks like it shoots bullets, not laser beams.

You'll get no argument out of me on that - the hi-point carbine has to be one of the ugliest guns I have ever laid my eyes on.

I had one that was a jam-o-matic , store gave me my money back after they tried it. mine was 45 acp

Marlin or the Hi Point?   Wife & I put about 100 rounds thru the Camp 9 w/o a single FTF, FTE or stove pipe.  Really happy, gun is a hoot to shoot.  Shooting handloaded 125 grain LRN over IIRC 3.5 grains of 700X.  Needs the heavier recoil spring as it is launching the brass way to far.

Marlin , store sent it bact to the factory never heard how it came back. If you want a 45 look at the Glock carbine conversions that might work. For me anything a 9mm can do a 30 carbine can also IMHO .

I was shootin my 45 Camp carbine today. It performed flawlessly. Only after some basic modifications.
