Holland & Holland QD Scope Mount
« on: August 05, 2012, 06:20:19 AM »
Shopping for a Quick Detachable scope mount on line and came across the Holland and Holland Quick Detachable Scope mount for bolt action rifles.  A bit pricey I'm afraid.  4,750 Pounds, which converts into $7,429.00 US Dollars.

This is a lot to spend for a scope mount.  I understand that you get what you pay for and all that, but I wonder if anyone has any experience with these mounts?

Have you considered Griffin & Howe?

They still do Q/D mounts I believe.

Sorry I have no experience with H&H stuff.

Yes I have considered the G&H which are $800.00 for the two piece and $400.00 for the double lever side mount.   Much more reasoable.

Once you get to these "boutique" levels the prices get rather silly to my mind. But the prices are at a level that they know people will pay. Hollands don't have a problem keeping their order book full. Whilst we may cringe at such prices thee are those who just pay up. One must also remember that here in the UK that at least 20% of that price is tax. As a foreign customer you can claim that back.

Just thought of another rifle maker whom might be able to offer mount set ups:-

Ron Wharton of Rigby :-

He is a very nice genuine chap who is very helpful. Yes I have not only dealt with him but met and visited his workshop several times as it is only a few miles from where I lived before my move north som eight years ago. It was Ron who found the new in the white Steyr made barrel for my Model 1903 Mannlicher.

Yrs. ago I had a Mannlicher 7X57 full stock butterspone bolt handle with Paul Jager scope mounts and rings, completely engraved and I thought the QD rings were wonderful only seen 1 other gun like it and have always wished I had never sold it, in fact I never even shot it, a dear friend of our family fell in love with it and I let his wife buy it off of me.  Jim
