Looking for opinions on an old cross bow
« on: July 03, 2012, 08:23:51 AM »
I have a handycaped boyscout that I have been trying to find a cross bow for. I found an old Barnette cross bow cheap. It a 150 lb. recurve style with what looks like a plastic stock.
What kind of range does this thing have and is it ok to hunt deer with.

For your safety, please check the bow limbs for hairline cracking.
Make sure you get bolts (arrows) that are spined properly for this bow.  Sight in for 20 yards and see where it it hits at 25 and 30 yards.  I'm guessing that this is a Barnett from the 1980'S or early 90'S.  They were OK for their time but nothing in common with the performance crossbows of 2012.

That being said, I'm sure that you'll find this is great fun to zero bullseyes with a crossbow.  They're silent and no recoil to disturb concentration of the shot.

Most states allow crossbow hunting but you should check the regs.

Good shooting to you.
