1917 Enfield carbine?
« on: August 15, 2012, 12:30:01 AM »
I was going through some old stuff and found the stock to a project I did 40+ years ag. It started life as a 1917 Enfield, but the stock is shorter than the standard Enfield rifle. It is like a normal 1917 but the part in front of the barrel band is shorter.
Anybody know what it is?

I had the barrel at one time but could not find it.

Looks like the wood was cut at or around the handguard band and then another piece from the same stock was grafted on. Something similar to what would be referred to as a duffle cut. Meaning returning G.I's would cut the stock in basically the same place so's they could stuff it in their duffel bag. Frank
