Model 99 Thoughts

My father gave me a few of his firearms yesterday. One was this model 99 in 250-3000. These are not great pictures, but it has a side mounted , old, weaver 4X. Plan to replace side mount with a receiver mount from Midway USA, and then shop for a suitable scope. Looking forward to hunting whitetail with this soon.
Any thoughts on the model 99?

My BIL has the same rifle but his has the receiver mount. It's a nice shooting gun, too bad they don't make them anymore. The little .250 round is great on deer, is quiet as centerfires go and light recoil.

I've owned two 99's over the years in 308. Great rifles. Would love to see Savage bring those and the Model 24's back.
