Cancer
« on: August 18, 2012, 04:06:51 AM »
I was told last week that I had "WON" the battle with my lung cancer and that it was in total remission.  I was then informed the ia test had revealed something in the head.  It turned out to be cancer, I have  a mass about the size of a hen egg located on the backside of the brain. I was was told it could be one of three different types of cancer.  THe doctors wanted to remove it yesterday but thet had to delay until Fri, Aug 24 due to all the medications they have me on. My doctors say it should be totally removable. recovery should be quick, said I would be ready for opening day oof deer season. I will have about three keeks more of radiation and some Chemo to kill any floaters that might remain.

After amost 30 years of batteling this the VA it has finally come back and accepted responsibility, the type of lung cancer is directly related to my time spent in SEA and daily baths with Agent Orange.

Keep up the good fight and if it helps, I'll be pulling for you.  Cancer is a scary thing, but thanks to our great doctors and technology, we're winning the battle one case at a time.  Been there, done that.

Talk about "good news - bad news".   :(   Glad your lung cancer is in remission but sorry to hear about this new cancer.   I'll say a prayer for you and your physicians that you will lick this new cancer as well.

I went to Stand Down today, a local program to assist Vets.  It's a big gathering of Vets in the Fairbanks area.  Due to the Army Post and AF Base in the area we have a lot of retires here.  Today one of the main topics with the Vets I talked with was the fact VA finally accepted them as patients due to their exposure to agent orange.  These guys were mostly ones that had gotten out after one hitch.  Many had been draftees, and had no other affiliation with the military after they got out.  Most had been fighting with the VA for years, trying to get acceptance for Cancer, feeling it was due to Agent Orange.   The VA is finally accepting them.  How many died before they won their fight with the VA.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
